Debs dominate Carolinas World Series battle

North Carolina cruised to a 9-1 win in a Carolinas battle in the third round of the Dixie Debs Softball World Series in Alexandria, Louisiana Sunday night. Undefeated in the series, the North Carolina champions from Columbus County takes on Louisiana in fourth round action at 8:30 p.m. EDST Monday.

Florida fell 13-4 to the North Carolina champions Angels X-Play team from South Columbus Sunday evening in the third round of the Dixie Softball World Series in Sumter. Falling to South Carolina in the series opener Saturday, the South Columbus girls move to the fourth round Monday in the double elimination series, taking on Mississippi at 6 p.m.. Sunday afternoon
Columbus County Dixie Debs took a 6-5 win in 9 innings over hosts Alexandria, Louisiana Sunday afternoon, giving the North Carolina champs a third-round birth in World Series action Sunday, taking on South Carolina at 8:30 p.m. EDST. Alex Chestnutt had a 2 run home run that made the score 5-4 in favor of the hosts. Kelsey Carroll doubled and Kailey Paul singled to right and scored Kelsey to tie the score at 5. Lindsey Jones had a single homerun in top of 9th to take the 6-5 lead. Callie Sumner, Alexis Suggs, Lauren Smith had hits, Amanda Watts had a bunt, and Paige Gore had a sacrifice bunt. It was the second win for North Carolina Sunday, with the Angels X-Play team from South Columbus victorious in the morning, setting up a 7 p.m. game against Florida that the younger NC girls must win to stay alive in that series in Sumter. South Columbus Dixie Angels X-Play took a 4-0 win over Tennessee in second round World Series action in Sumter Sunday morning, the North Carolina champions moving on to the third round with a 7 p.m. game, its opponent yet to be determined. State champs Dixie Debs from Columbus County move on to round 2 in their World Series at noon, taking on the host Alexandria, Louisiana team.
Saturday
North Carolina champions Columbus County Dixie Debs claimed a round one win in World Series action in Louisiana Saturday, defeating Virginia 11-6 in a rain-soaked matchup. Round two is scheduled for noon EDST Sunday, with the North Carolina girls facing the host Alexandria, Louisiana team. Dixie Angels from South Columbus, also the NC champions, lost its first round game at Sumter Saturday afternoon, falling to South Carolina 7-2. This was only the second loss for the team since beginning its championship quest. It’s win or go home for the South Columbus girls as the play again at 10 a.m. Sunday, their opponent still undetermined Saturday afternoon.
