Water line rupture forces Loris apartments evacuation

Freezing weather is blamed for a “major interior water pipe break” at Loris Garden Apartments Sunday afternoon.
All 39 occupants of the facility on Suggs Street have been relocated to shelter locations at Palmetto Way Community Center or with family members, Lt. Robert Rudelitch of the Loris Fire Department said.
A water line feeding the fire suppression sprinkler system on the second floor burst, apparently a victim of the ongoing string of frigid temperatures in the area, Rudelitch said.
Damage was extensive, the apartment complex expected to be closed for at least “several days,” Rudelitch said.
Horry County Fire/Rescue, American Red Cross, Loris Public Works, and Santee Cooper responded to the call.
Concerned family members may contact Lt. Rudelitch at the Loris Fire Department or property management at 843-222-4511.
