Red Devil Day has become the first local casualty of Hurricane Florence, no matter where the storm strikes later this week.

A networking social event sponsored by the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce and scheduled for 6 p.m. today (Monday) at The Todd House has also been cancelled, to be rescheduled at a later date.

Organizers of the celebration slated for this Saturday at the former Tabor City High School which, now Tabor City Elementary School, have cancelled the event and will leave a decision on a new date for another day, Tabor City Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Cynthia Nelson said Monday morning.

“We just don’t know what Hurricane Florence will do, and even if the worse doesn’t hit us we still might be without power, the school might be without power, and people need to plan,” Nelson said.

Red Devil Day will happen, eventually, Nelson said, a celebration on campus before the school is razed to make room for a new Pre-K through 8th grade campus, likely next year.
