Man shot dead outside Williams Road home

     A Chadbourn area man appears to have been shot dead outside his home, prompting a homicide investigation by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

     Deputies responded to the Williams Road home of Dennis Jerome Smith Jr. just after 8 p.m. Saturday. Smith, 29, was outside the home, dead of an apparent gunshot wound, a news release from Sheriff Jody Greene said.

     An autopsy is to be conducted at the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Raleigh this week.

     Anyone with “information concerning the events surrounding Mr. Smith’s homicide” should contact Lt. Barber or Sgt. Parker at the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, 910-642-6551.
