There will be no District Court session in Tabor City, those scheduled to appear there this Friday getting an eight-week reprieve thanks to a ruptured water line, Columbus County Clerk of Court Jess Hill said Monday.

All cases calendared for Tabor City this Friday have been rescheduled for Friday, March 15, Hill said.

Water from a water line that ruptured in a bathroom near the center of the town-owned District Court building soaked carpet and damaged the raised platform that includes the judge’s bench, witness stand and clerk’s table, Tabor City Town Manager Al Leonard said.

Notices of the cancellation and new court dates have been sent to everyone on the court calendar for this Friday.

“Those notices were sent to the last known address for those scheduled to be in court,” Hill said.

Hill was in Tabor City Monday morning, posting the notice on the courthouse door.
