John Bruce Harrelson: Green Sea

1927 – 2019

     John Bruce Harrelson of Green Sea passed away Wednesday, March 6, unexpectedly at his residence. He was 91.

     Born on Aug. 25, 1927 to the late Coy E. Harrelson and Ruth Graham Harrelson in Horry County.

     Bruce was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended Duke University for two years and transferred and graduated from Clemson University. Bruce was also a graduate of American Academy McAllister Institute of New York. Bruce served in the funeral industry as a Funeral Director and Embalmer for many years working for Hickory Funeral Home and Bass-Smith Funeral Home. He served in the United States Navy during WWII.

     Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Doris Ann “Dot” Baucom Harrelson and sister, Evelyn Marsh.

     Survivors include his son, John Bruce Harrelson, Jr. of the home; sister, Martha Jandt of Seguin, Texas; and a niece, Dee Dee Jandt Brite of Seguin, Texas.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12: 45 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 544 at funeral home.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at Green Sea Cemetery in Green Sea.
