A “partial remand for findings” in protests involving the election for Columbus County Sheriff may be sent back to the newly formed county Board of Elections.

State Board of Elections members will hold a teleconference meeting Thursday to consider the partial remand, spokesman Patrick Gannon said in an email to news outlets Tuesday afternoon.

State board members Thursday “will consider whether additional findings should be made at the county board level as it pertains to candidate residency and potentially other issues” in the sheriff’s contest,” Gannon said.

State Board members were scheduled to begin hearings Monday on protests of the election filed by Nancy Hill and Gloria Smith. Their protests were denied by the former county elections board last November, and appealed to the state board the following month, after GOP candidate Jody Greene had been sworn into office.

Monday’s hearing has been cancelled, Gannon said.
