Diana S. Worley: Cerro Gordo
1946 – 2019
Diana S. Worley of Cerro Gordo died at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice House on Wednesday, March 20. She was 72.
Born in Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late William and Louise Stone.
Diana attended a year of nursing school at UNC Rex in Raleigh, before working as a secretary in the insurance industry for over 20 years. She transitioned to the Columbus County Library system where she worked as a librarian for 18 years until her retirement in 2014.
In the 90’s she encouraged her son’s love for baseball by volunteering in the dugout for the Whiteville Optimist Club where she could be found keeping score and consoling struck-out batters.
Diana was a voracious reader and loved British history, with a particular interest in the House of Tudor, even traveling to England to explorer the subject matter first-hand.
She is survived by her husband, James Worley of Cerro Gordo; one son, Boyd (Courtney) of Whiteville; one brother, Stuart Stone (Sandy) of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Sarah Stone of Rocky Point; and grandson Tyler Worley of Whiteville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23 in the Meares Funeral Home Chapel, Fair Bluff.
