A Loris teen was shot and killed east of the city Monday night, leaving the Horry County Police Department seeking information they hope will lead to his killer, an HCPD news release said.
Mar’trellyiz Vereen, 18, was found at Flag Patch Cemetery off of Wayside Road about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Police had been called to check on a person face-down beside a vehicle, the HCPD said. Responding officers found Vereen laying face-up behind a silver vehicle parked at the rear of the cemetery, an HCPD report said.
Officers confirmed quickly that Vereen was dead. Vereen had been shot, the Horry County Coroner’s Office reported.
HCPD is asking anyone with information to come forward.
“It is our sincere hope to bring some form of closure to the family and friends impacted by this terrible loss, and we would appreciate any support the community can offer,” the HCPD news release said.
Anyone with information that may aid in the investigation is asked to contact the HCPD at 843-915-TIPS (8477) or email crimetips@horrycounty.org.
Those who provide a tip through Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. For Crime Stoppers, call 1-888-CRIMESC (554-1111).
