A detour at NC 410 at US 701 in Tabor City Monday marked the beginning of a traffic improvement project designed to reduce back-ups at one of the area’s most congested highway intersections.
A “continuous-flow” right turn will be constructed on the site, work to be complete no later than next spring, but the contract gives Barnhill Contracting Co. of Rocky Mount only 45 days to close the road with the detour, that takes northbound 410 traffic up Ten Mile Road off of US 701, said NC Department of Transportation District Engineer Kenneth Clark.
Closing the section of NC 410 will be safer for road workers, and more efficient in moving traffic, Clark said.
