Operation Carnivore, a multi-agency law enforcement effort targeting drug trafficking in several areas of Columbus County including Green Acres, Ten Mile Road, and Dessie Road, resulted in the arrests of 17 people early this week, representatives of those agencies said this morning.
“Promises made, promises kept,” state Rep. Brenden Jones said during the news conference held in Whiteville. “It is just an awesome day in CC to watch the clean-up taking place.”
“This is just the beginning,” Sheriff Jody Greene said. “It will not stop here.”
Federal agencies also pledged to return to the county, soon.

Three search warrants were executed Tuesday morning, resulting in the seizure of four firearms, three that were stolen, from Ash, Country Boy Outfitters, and near Tabor City.
Investigators also seized cash, ammunition, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, Oxycodone and other prescription pills.
Columbus County Animal Control seized 17 dogs, some violent, some malnourished, for various reasons.
Sheriff Jody Greene offered thanks to the law enforcement agencies involved, including US Marshals Service; Bladen County Sheriff’s Office; Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Columbus County Animal Control; Fayetteville Police Department; NC Division of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Bureau; NC State Bureau of Investigation; NC State Highway Patrol; Pender County Sheriff’s Office; Robeson County Sheriff’s Office; US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Greene said he is on a “mission to reduce criminal activity in Columbus County” and encouraged anyone with information on that activity to contact the sheriff’s office.
