Johnny James Hughes: Loris

1935 – 2020

     Johnny James Hughes of Loris passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. He was 84.

     Mr. Hughes was born on Nov. 25, 1935 in Loris, to the late John James Hughes and the late Hattie Idell Cooper Hughes. Mr. Hughes retired as a farmer and carpenter.

     Mr. Hughes was a lifetime active member of Springfield Baptist Church in Loris, SC where he served as the Church Clerk and as a Sunday school teacher. He was an avid hunter and had a very special love for his two dogs, Smokey and Buckshot.

     Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Kathleen Hughes of the home; his two sons, James Scott Hughes and Tracey Hughes both of Loris; his daughter, June Brown and her husband, William of Loris; one sister, Letha Fronk of Aurora, Illionois; six grandchildren, Amanda Hughes and her significant other, William Suggs of Loris, Nichole Gasque  and her husband, Kevin of Aynor, Holly Rabon and her husband, Danny of Nichols, Carrie Brown, Sydney Brown, and Casey Brown all of Loris; four great-grandchildren, Drake Fowler, Macie Rein Rabon, Kaseom Gasque, and Natalie Bernice Rabon.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by three brothers and six sisters.

     Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Springfield Baptist Church with Pastor Darren Squires, Pastor Mack Hutson, and Pastor Wade Hodge officiating. Committal services followed at Patterson Cemetery.
