Roger Delane McPherson: Chadbourn

1945 – 2020

     Roger Delane McPherson of the Beaverdam community, Chadbourn, died Friday, May 1, in his home. He was 74.

     Born June 6, 1945 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Dock Shelton and Mattie Godwin McPherson.

     He is survived by his wife, Brenda N. McPherson of the home; two sons, Joey Delane McPherson and his wife Chris and Craig McPherson and his wife Rose, all of Chadbourn; a daughter, Amy McPherson Fowler of Chadbourn; one brother, Ben Shelton McPherson of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Sunni McPherson, Joshua Craig McPherson, Jessie Faulk, Roy McPherson, Justin McPherson, Emma Cidello, Macelan McPherson and Anna Fowler; and three great grandchildren, Shelt McPherson, Kynlee Jo Faulk and Briar Delane McPherson.

     Mr. Roger was a lifetime member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the adult choir. He retired from SCL Railroad and was an avid agribusiness man, farmer and tobacco buyer.

     Mr. Roger was a beloved member of his community and known by many as the Mayor of Roseland.

     Visitation was planned from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, in his cook house at his home, 1500 Roseland Road, Chadbourn.

     Graveside services were planned for 11 a.m. Sunday, May 3, in Frog Field Cemetery at his home.

     Due to the coronavirus pandemic and executive order by the Governor attendance will be limited.
