It was the wish of Eugene Glen “Smiley” Boyer, a member of the Tabor City Fire Department for more than four decades, to be carried to his grave on the department’s vintage fire engine. Some of his brothers on the department accompanied the casket on that truck Friday morning, through downtown Tabor City, to Twin City Memorial where a graveside service was held.
