Paul McLennon Long: Nakina
1931 – 2020
Paul McLennon Long of Nakina passed away quietly on Friday, June 12, , surrounded by family at Angel House Hospice, Whiteville. She was 88.
Born Aug. 26, 1931 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Fletcher McLennon Long and Versie Watts Long.
Paul was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After he completed his military service, Paul became a very well-known and sought-after tugboat and dredge boat captain.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gervais Long Long of Nakina; three daughters, Frankie Lynn Long-Martin of Nakina, Donna Long of Whiteville, and Vicky Long Faulk of Tabor City; two sons, Paul Kenneth Long of Nakina and Ricky Ray Long of Nakina; a brother, Oliver Long of Grass Valley, California; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Long Phillips.
A graveside service was planned for 3 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the Pireway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 14359 Swamp Fox Hwy East, Tabor City, with Elder Ernest Duncan officiating.
Visitation was planned to follow the service in the cemetery.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be observed and the family encourages all who attend to wear a mask.
