Update: Remains of missing western Horry woman believe found in Marion County

UPDATE: Tuesday morning

     Remains believed to be those of missing western Horry County woman Mary Ann Elvington were found in Marion County Monday evening, news releases from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Horry County Police Department said.

     Those remains were located in the Zion community near Marion in Marion County at about 6:45 p.m. Monday.

     “The Marion County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this heinous crime as a homicide along with Horry County Police Department and the State Law Enforcement Division,” the HCPD news release said. “If you have any information concerning this case contact your local authorities or call the HCPD tipline at 843-915-8477.

     “We sincerely appreciate the diligence and exceptional work by our neighboring agencies. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we will not rest until this crime is solved.”

UPDATE: Monday afternoon

     Law enforcement from two counties has expanded its search for missing western Horry resident Mary Ann Elvington.

     Elvington, whose home is on Hwy 76 between Nichols and Fair Bluff, was last seen near that highway, the Horry County Police Department reported Monday. She was reported missing Sunday.

     Her white 2012 Buick Lacrosse was found unoccupied on Bobby L. Davis Boulevard, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is actively involved in the search for Ms. Elvington.

     “HCPD and MCSO have utilized bloodhounds and other tracking K9s, FLIR thermal imaging equipment, and foot searches in an effort to find Elvington,” the HCPD posted on Facebook Monday afternoon.

     A State Law Enforcement Division helicopter has also been involved in the search.

     “Community members are asked to keep an eye out for Elvington,” the HCPD post said. “She is approximately 5’2” and 160 lbs., with gray brown hair and brown eyes.”

     Anyone with information on where Elvington might be is asked to call their local law enforcement agency of the HCPD tipline at 843-915-8477.

     An elderly woman from western Horry is missing, the Horry County Police Department involved in the search.

     Mary Ann Elvington, 80, was last seen near her home on Hwy 76, Nichols, the HCPD said in a Facebook post early Monday.

     Elvington is approximately five feet, two inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. She was described by the HCPD as missing and endangered.
