Sheriff seeks public help in TC area death

     Assistance from the public is being sought three days after the possible murder of a Chadbourn man near Tabor City.

     Elbert Vereen, 20, was found in a field off of the 1000 block of Clyde Norris Road, east of Tabor City, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday, a news release Thursday from Sheriff Jody Greene said.

     Vereen “succumbed to his injuries” after deputies responded to the reported gunshot wound victim, the news release said.

     No further details were released, the sheriff describing the investigation as ongoing, and asking that anyone with information on the case contact Det. Paul Rockenbach at 910-770-2145.
