Yam Pageant info meet is Wednesday evening

     Pageant time for the North Carolina Yam Festival at Tabor City is just weeks away, with a contestant informational meeting scheduled Wednesday evening.

     Nine crowns will be given during a pair of pageants on Saturday, Oct. 16, at South Columbus High School. Contestants from babies to 23 years old are invited.

With a drop-in format, the informational meeting will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. inside the offices of the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce, 103-D East 5th Street, next door to the Tabor City Public Library.

Katie Harper Nobles is the pageant committee chair.

Pageants

     Younger divisions will be judged during an 11 a.m. pageant on Oct. 16, the older groups competing at 6 p.m.

     Divisions for each pageant include:

  • 11 a.m. – Baby Miss, birth to 12 months; Mini-Miss, 13 to 23 months; Tiny Miss, 2 to 3 years; Petite Miss, 4 to 5 years; Little Miss, 6 to 8 years.
  • 6 p.m. – Junior Miss, 9 to 11 years; Young Miss, 12 to 14; Teen Miss, 15 to 17; Yam Festival Queen, 18 to 23.
