A woman and her mother died following a head-on auto crash on U.S. 701 just north of the Sidney Community Wednesday morning.

An 18-year-old man driving the second vehicle was seriously injured, First Sgt. Andrew Pait of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Teva Norris, 44, of Tabor City died in the crash before 7:15 a.m. Her mother, Taunya Norris, 66, was taken from the scene by AirLink helicopter and died later, Pait said.

A second AirLink helicopter took the second driver from the scene. Pait said he did not have information on that young man’s name, or charges.

Investigators determined that the Hyundai SUV the young man was driving went left of center and struck the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by Teva Norris head-on.
