Sallie Kapps was of service to others through much of her life, including 35 years as a gift shop volunteer first at Loris Community Hospital, later after the facility became McLeod Loris.

Family and friends gathered Monday to celebrate Kapps for her 104th birthday, though that milestone is actually still a couple of weeks away.

Gathering at the Horry County Council on Aging Community Center on Heritage Road, the gave Kapps an opportunity to spend time with close friends, enjoy homemade cupcakes, read some birthday songs, blow out candles, and of course hear everyone sing “Happy birthday.”

“I am so grateful for my friends and family who have helped me,” Kapps said.

“Mom is grateful every day and loves coming here to spend time with her special friends,” Kapps daughter Sallie Kapps Dalton said. “She lives life to the fullest.”
