Walter Rogers Williamson: Cerro Gordo

1946 – 2023

     Walter Rogers Williamson of Cerro Gordo, formerly of Tabor City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Angel House Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, surrounded by his family. He was 77.

     A celebration of life service was planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church.

     Visitation was planned from 1:30 to 2:50 p.m., preceding the service, at the church.

     He was born May 6, 1946 to Stephen and Pearle Williamson.

     Walter is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol; children Chris Williamson (Jennifer) of Pinehurst and Angie Williamson Benton (Rick) of Cerro Gordo; six grandchildren, Nicholas Williamson, Trey Benton, Cody Benton, Cole Benton, Peyton Williamson and Chase Benton; a brother Frank Williamson (Debbie) of Charleston; and one sister, Anne Williamson Hatchell of Greer.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Stephen Williamson; and brother-in-law Wilder Hatchell.

     He was a long time banker and “one proud Papa” of his grandchildren.

     In lieu of flowers, family ask donations may be made to Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, 257 Church Street, Cerro Gordo, NC 28430 and Angel House Hospice Care Center, 206 Warrior Trail Road, Whiteville, NC 28472.
