After-school activities for the Columbus County Schools “will cease today at 6 p.m. due to the incoming weather,” a CCS social media post Friday morning said. “All games tonight have been postponed.”

There has been no similar announcement from the Horry County Schools as of late morning, Jan. 12.

Forecasts for both Columbus and Horry from the National Weather Service include a “slight risk” of severe weather this evening as a strong storm system followed by a cold front moves through, the risk extending as late as 2 a.m. Saturday along the coast. Gusty conditions are expected to linger through Saturday.

Early dismissals are in place for both the CCS and HCS as a part of previously published high school exam schedules.

Schools will be closed for both systems Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Horry students will also be out Tuesday, a previously scheduled teacher work day.
