State Rep. Brenden Jones of Tabor City has been elected Majority Leader of the North Carolina House or Representatives.

Jones election Tuesday was “by an overwhelming majority of his colleagues, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in leadership,” a news release from his office said. “With deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility, Representative Brenden Jones looks forward to guiding the team toward continued success and progress.”

“I am truly honored and humbled to have earned the trust of my colleagues,” Jones said. “This vote of confidence means so much to me, and I am both excited and ready to begin this new role.

“As Majority Leader, I am committed to fostering collaboration, strengthening our unity, and ensuring that we move forward with purpose and vision. Together, we will continue to build on our successes and work to make a positive impact for the people we serve.”

Jones said his election reflected the confidence and support he has earned from colleagues “who recognize his dedication, leadership qualities, and vision for the future.

Jones said he will focus on advancing policies that prioritize strong conservative beliefs, fostering an inclusive and productive working environment, and driving legislative efforts that benefit the community.

“I am eager to roll up my sleeves and work closely with each of my colleagues, as well as with the public, to ensure that we remain on a path of growth, opportunity, and meaningful change,” Jones said. “We are entering a new era, and together, we will continue to make strides toward a brighter future for all.”

Also elected was Rep. Destin Hall, as Speaker of the House, and Rep. Steve Tyson as Deputy Majority Leader.

First elected to the house in 2016, Jones is beginning his fifth term in office, and was unopposed in the general election earlier this month. He has served as Deputy Majority Leader in recent years.

Jones is the first from the GOP to win a seat in the NC House since reconstruction.
