Weather forecasts that include several inches of snow with the potential for some ice and sleet tonight into Wednesday has prompted school districts and local government offices to alter their schedules.
Those changes include:
- Columbus County Schools, with most students out of the classroom Tuesday and Wednesday because of previous scheduled work days, will put Columbus College & Career Academy students on remote learning Wednesday, Jan. 22. Decisions on Thursday will likely be made on Wednesday.
- Horry County Schools have shut down effective at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 20, with all after school activities cancelled. Students will revert to eLearning for Wednesday, with decisions for Thursday expected tomorrow.
- Columbus County government offices are closing at 4 p.m. today, will be closed Wednesday, and will operate on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, weather permitting.
- Columbus County Courts will be closed Wednesday, with traffic court cases to be continued.
- Horry County government offices will close at 7 p.m. today, and will be closed on Wednesday. That includes Horry County Solid Waste Authority offices and facilities. Normal operations will resume Thursday, if conditions allow.
- Southeastern Community College closes at 3 p.m. today, with remote instruction plans in place where possible. SCC will be closed Wednesday, too, including Child development. A two-hour delay is expected for Thursday.
Snowfall
Snowfall is expected to begin this evening, ending from west to east between 2 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, likely on the later side for the Tabor-Loris Community, a mid-afternoon update from the National Weather Service in Wilmington said.
That updated indicated snowfall totals from 4 to 5 inches for the Tabor-Loris Community, as much as six inches in southeastern Columbus and southwestern Brunswick counties.
