UPDATE: CC Schools will be closed Feb. 20, no remote learning

     Columbus County Schools will be closed Thursday, Feb. 20, the district announced in a correction to its automated notification system Wednesday afternoon.

     That correction came nearly an hour after the notification at about 4:45 p.m. that the district’s remote learning plan would be in place Thursday.

     Dismissed at noon Wednesday, Feb. 19, students in the Columbus County Schools won’t be expected on campus will take care of their studies remotely on Thursday, a district announcement Wednesday afternoon said.

     All afterschool activities Thursday are also cancelled, the announcement said.

     “Students should check Google Classroom in the morning for assignments and communicate via Remind with any questions.

     Southeastern Community College closed at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with students advised to “complete their online assignments while the college is closed to stay on track with coursework during this remote period,” an SCC notice said. “Employees should take laptops home and prepare for remote work.”

     All SCC events for Wednesday were cancelled, and the Child Development Center also closed at 1 p.m. SCC will re-open at 11 a.m. Thursday, including the Child Development Center, the college announced Wednesday evening.

     Columbus County government offices closed at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday.

     Columbus County Courthouse will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, with District Court in session at 10:30 a.m.

     National Weather Service forecasts for the night indicated the Tabor-Loris Community and surrounding areas will see freezing rain overnight, with a glazing of ice from .01 to .1 inches accumulating.
