Ethel Mae Carter: Hampstead

1926 – 2025

     Ethel Mae Carter of Hampstead died Monday, Nov. 17, in Liberty Commons, Whiteville. She was 99.

     Born April 17, 1926, in Wallace, she was the daughter of the late Austin Atkinson and Myrtle Carr Atkinson.

     She was a member of Provident Baptist Church in Holly Ridge.

     She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Herring of Tabor City; a brother, David Atkinson of Carolina Beach; one granddaughter, Heidi Herring of Clayton; four great grandchildren, Alex Herring (Lacy), Arron Herring, Matthew Hurst and Jordyn Herring; and two great great grandchildren, Deacon Mack Herring and Lennon Rose Herring.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvie Carter; one son, Tommy Carter; an infant daughter, Julia Dean Carter; and one grandson, Brandon Herring.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Chapel, Wallace, with burial following in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace.
