A water quality warning and boil water advisory has been inssued for Columbus County Water & Sewer District I after a line was ruptured Tuesday.

“Local contractors plowed into one of the water lines,” a news release from county government said. “Staff are working diligently to repair service to customers.”

Those impacted “include all customers on Emerson Road and from 8703 to 11177 Old Stake Road,” the news release said. “Due to local contractors reversing the flow of water throughout the system, customers may experience water quality issues such as discolored water.

“Customers that experience problems with discolored water will need to contact the afterhours telephone number, 910-770-2158, to report concerns.  Staff will be working diligently to monitor potential issues that may arise.”

Officials expect the system to be clear within 24 hours, and water used for consumption should be boiled “during the next 24 hours,” or until after noon Wednesay, April 2.
