Native American speaker at Loris First United Methodist

     A focus on Native American issues will be part of morning worship at Loris First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Feb. 17.

     Speaking at the 10:30 a.m. service will be Zan Tracey Pender, chair the Secretary of the United Methodist Southeastern Jurisdiction Association of Native Americans Council and Elder for the American Indian Scouting Association.

     His paternal grandmother was an American Indian of both South Carolina’s Yasumasa and Santee tribes.

     Pender has two associate degrees in applied sciences in criminal justice and social science from the Community College of the Air Force. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling from Webster University along with graduating from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute.

     He is also well versed in cross-cultural communications, investigating hate crimes, allegations of discrimination and sexual harassment. He retired from the United States air Force in 2001, after serving more than 20 years.

     All are invited. The church is located at 3507 Broad Street in Loris.
