Yam Display Champs

Tabor City Baptist Church Day Care (top photo) and Ooh La La! have won the outdoor display and storefront divisions of the North Carolina Yam Festival Merchant Display Contest for 2012. Day Care students posed with their winning entry, while Cynthia Nelson of the sponsoring Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce held the plaque for Ooh La La! owner Miranda Thompkins and her children, Ranzlee, 9-months, and Weston, age 2. Judging was Tuesday morning, with both winners repeating from 2011. Runner-ups in the outdoor division were Tabor City Middle School, 2nd; First Bank, 3rd; Elite One, 4th; and honorable mentions for Sunset Tanz and Mama’s Restaurant. Storefront runner-ups were Carolina Girls, 2nd; B’s Place, 3rd; and honorable mentions for Dameron Drug and Southeastern Insurance. (Deuce Niven photos)
