Refunds or alternative deferrals have been approved for vendors and parade participants impacted by the cancellation of this year’s North Carolina Yam Festival at Tabor City.
Festival directors, meeting Thursday, approved refunds as follows:
•    Food and craft vendors and those who paid fees for informational displays will be offered full refunds of their fees, or may waive the refund and have the payment applied to the 2013 Yam Festival.
•    Parade participants will be offered full refunds of their fees, or may waive the refunds and take part in the Town of Tabor City sponsored Christmas Parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
In support of the refund decision, the town will not charge anyone taking part in this year’s Christmas Parade, Town Manager Al Leonard said.
All vendors, parade participants, and others due refunds are asked to contact Cynthia Nelson at the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce at 910-377-3012, or tccofc@yahoo.com, and tell her if a refund or deferral of that fee is preferred.
Wind and rain predicted for Saturday during the Yam Festival force cancellation of the annual celebration’s biggest day, including the parade, entertainment, and other events.
There are tentative plans by specific event sponsors to reschedule the 5K Walk/Run, Firefighter’s and EMS competitions, though new dates and times have not yet been established.
