Nesmith Center dedication March 27 at SCC

Dedication and the formal grand opening of the Nesmith Student Center at Southeastern Community College is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27.
A ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. will be held in the completely, formerly known as G-Building, a hub for student life.
Located in the center of campus, the building houses a fitness center, bookstore, Academic Skills Lab, Rams Cafe, classrooms, and offices for Columbus Career and College Academy.
Funding for the project included a $2.5 million bequest from the estate of Ben and Lucy Nesmith of Tabor City. Their extraordinary generosity will be celebrated at the dedication, SCC officials said.
“The Nesmiths intended that the $3.5 million bequest be used for the benefit of SCC students and capital improvements,” an SCC news release said. “Their bequest was the largest unrestricted gift ever received by the SCC Foundation and the third largest to any foundation in the North Carolina Community College System.”
Tours of the facility will be available following the dedication ceremony.
