Dr. Vernon Miller Medlin, Sr.: Loris

Dr. Vernon Miller Medlin, Sr., of Loris age 76, passed away Sunday, July 21 at his home following an illness. He was 76.
Born on April 6, 1937 in Longs, he was the son of the late Mr. Dwight Wilson Medlin and the late Mrs. Agnes Bessie Cox Medlin.
Dr. Medlin served his country with honor and courage in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 32 years of service with the Horry County Sheriff’s Department and the SC Highway Patrol, was a Doctor of Divinity, taught at Grace Theological Seminary, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a devoted member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sawyer Medlin of the home; sons, Vernon Miller Medlin, Jr. and Scott Alan Medlin, and brother, Vic Medlin, all of Longs.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Buck Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Weber, Pastor Larry Allen and Reverend Mike Lyles officiating. Committal services with flag presentation and Taps conferred by the Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard were to follow at Buck Creek Cemetery.
Visitation was planned from 9:30 until the time of service Wednesday morning at Buck Creek Baptist Church.
