Well-placed kick halts robbery try
By DEUCE NIVEN
A well-placed kick apparently thwarted a robbery attempt at a BB&T night deposit Tuesday night, Det. Ken Elliott of the Tabor City Police Department said.
Taken to the ground in a fight over a Maxway deposit, the female store employee was able to kick the would-be robber in the groin, Elliott said. Her attacker then got up and ran.
Elliott said the store worker was alone as she approached the night-deposit drop box on the Hickman Road side of the Tabor City bank branch just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A man apparently lying in wait nearby grabbed for the bank deposit bag, the woman held on, and both fell to the ground in the struggle.
Winded but unhurt, the store worker said her attacker was a black man wearing a grey sweatshirt and knee-length black pants.
Police were unable to locate the robber, who fled on foot down West 3rd Street.
