Martie Jeanette Lowery Duncan: Tabor City

    Martie Jeanette Lowery Duncan, of Tabor City died Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville. She was 78.
    Born July 21, 1935, she was a member of Emerson Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she was the founder of the Youth League. She helped create programs including Senior Citizens Day and Secret Pals, and was the Christmas Play director at the church for many years.
    She and her husband Kenneth shared in a prison Camp ministry, along with PC Lanier, for many decades traveling all over North and South Carolina preaching and singing the word of God. They were known as, “The Old Time Gospel Singers”.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Duncan, parents Gummery and Gladys Lowery of Guideway; brothers Otis and Davis Lowery of Guideway; sisters Carolyn Graham of Elgin, Eddie Rue Cox-Collins of Columbia, and Sadie Tucker of Nakina.
   She is survived by a brother, Harold Lowery of Lumberton; daughters Sandra Shupe and spouse Jay of Nashville, Tenn., Ann Hardee of Clarendon, and Beth Perritt and spouse Marshall of Hallsboro; son Jeff Duncan of Tabor City; grandchildren Shaun Bowen, Cassie Cornish, Anthony and spouse Jeanie Hardee and Timothy Hardee, Ethan, Cody, and Dylan Perritt; great grandchildren Savannah Bowen, Cryslin Bowen-Maier, Summer and Autumn Ryan, Charlie, Cameron, Ethan, and Gracie Hardee.
    Visitation was planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Inman Funeral home of Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Emerson Freewill Baptist Church with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
