A former postal clerk was charged Friday with stealing nearly $16,000 from the U.S. Post Office in Tabor City, Police Chief Donald Dowless said.
Georganna Gore, 46, of Garland Cox Road, Tabor City, surrendered herself at the Columbus County Detention Center in Whiteville Friday afternoon, where a single warrant for larceny by employee was served.
She was released under a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Gore is accused of taking the money between Sept. 7, 2011 and Oct. 30 of this year, the warrant obtained by Maj. Jerry Sarvis said.
Chief Dowless said his department took over an ongoing investigation at the request of U.S. Postal Service Inspectors.
Gore resigned her position wit the U.S. Postal Service when told of the investigation earlier this week, Dowless said.
