Fred McCoy Jernigan Jr.: Tabor City

    Fred McCoy Jernigan Jr. died Tuesday, Nov. 5, in McLeod Loris hospital. He was 84.
    Born in Mullins, he was the son of the late Fred McCoy Jernigan Sr. and Bobbie Garrell Jernigan.
    He was a graduate of Tabor City High School Class of 1947. After graduation he attended the Citadel. He was a veteran of the U.S Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1954. He was a member of the Tabor City Baptist Church.
    He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jernigan of the home; children Fred Jernigan III of Tabor City, Mark Jernigan of North Myrtle Beach, Shawn Jernigan Elliott of Tabor City, John Jernigan of Wilmington, Anne Jernigan of Tabor City, Matt Jernigan of Watkins Lake, Mich., Linda Jernigan Jordan of Longs; a sister, Margaret Jo Willoughby of Anderson; eight grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lennox Jernigan; a brother, Robert Andrew Jernigan; and sister, Betty Jernigan Baxter.
    Funeral service were planned for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Tabor City Baptist Church with burial with military honors following in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City. Visitation was to be held during the hour preceding the service, at the church.
