Trivett named new FBPD Chief
By DEUCE NIVEN
Darrell Trivett II, an 18-year law enforcement veteran, will be Fair Bluff’s next police chief, Mayor Billy Hammond said Friday.
Town commissioners agreed to hire the current Carolina Beach Police Department officer on Monday, and Trivett accepted the position Friday. He will begin work in early February Hammond said. Trivett’s annual salary was set at about $40,000.
Trivett fills the post vacated by Justin Hewett, who resigned abruptly in September 2013 to become second in command at the Columbus County Detention Center. He had been chief in Fair Bluff for less than 15 months.
A Carolina Beach officer since 2008, Trivett lives in Columbus County, near Chadbourn, Hammond said.
Ronnie Carroll, who had been acting chief since Nov. 1, resigned after commissioners made their decision Monday, Hammond said.
Officer Brian Beauchaine will serve as acting chief until Trivett takes office, Hammond said.
