George Calvin Smith: Clarendon

    Rev. George Calvin Smith of Clarendon died Thursday, May 8 in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, Whiteville. He was 79.
    Born March 10, 1935 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Archie R. and Addie Rendle Ward Smith.  
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Smith; a daughter, Donna T. Edwards and a brother, Ralph Dayton Smith.
    He is survived by two sons, Adolph C. Smith (Maria) of Vanceboro, NC, George Jerome Smith (Leona) of Roanoke Island, NC; one daughter, Sharon K. Sholes (Maurice) of Clarendon; one brother, Archie T. Smith of Greenville, SC; one sister, Letha P. McDaniel of Clarendon; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
    Rev. Smith was a Veteran of the United States Army and a retired Methodist Minister.    
    A Memorial service was planned 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 in the Chadbourn United Methodist Church.
    The family will receive friends after the service in the church.
