Smoky 5-vehicle crash east of T.C.

By DEUCE NIVEN

Heavy smoke from burning wheat fields was getting the blame from those involved in a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash on NC 904 east of Tabor City just after 11:30 a.m. Friday.
In what appeared to be a Friday the 13th miracle, none of the seven people involved were taken to a hospital, though at least three of the vehicles suffered heavy damage that appeared enough for them to be declared total losses.
One SUV slipped into a ditch, avoiding impact with the car in front of it.
“When I got here you couldn’t see anything,” Tabor City Fire Chief Jerry Hodges said.
Firefighters shut down Swamp Fox Hwy East well to the east and west of the Cox Subdivision Road loop, near the crash site.
Details on the incident can be found in the June 18 Tabor-Loris Tribune in print and online.
