Toddler drowns in Loris area pool

By DEUCE NIVEN

A investigation into the drowning of a Chadbourn area toddler is underway by the Horry County Police Department, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge Jr. said Sunday.
Carter Myles Mincey, 3, of Old Stake Road, Chadbourn, drowned in a pool in the Goretown Community east of  Loris about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Edge said.
Family members found the boy in the pool, and performed CPR before he was taken by ambulance to McLeod Loris hospital, Edge said. Mincey was at the home attending a birthday party for a relative.
Mincey had been in the pool with family members earlier, wearing floaties on his arms to keep his head above water, Edge said.
“He somehow got back into the water without the floaties,” Edge said. It was unclear, Edge said, if anyone else was in the pool. Family members realized they did not know where the boy was, began looking, and found him in the pool.
Mincey was the son of Amber Renee Andrews Mincey of Chadbourn and Martin Leon Mincey of Myrtle Beach. His obituary can be found here.
Additional information from the Horry County Police Department was not available on Sunday.
