Fireworks celebration moved to Monday

By DEUCE NIVEN

Hurricane Arthur, its status upgraded from Tropical Storm overnight, has forced the postponement of Tabor City’s Fourth of July on the Third fireworks celebration.
All of the scheduled activities at South Columbus High School, entertainment and fireworks, will take place Monday, July 7, said Cynthia Nelson, Executive Vice President of the sponsoring Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce.
“Bless the fireworks company, they were able to accommodate us,” Nelson said.
Arthur was taking a more westerly track than originally forecast by mid-morning Thursday, with predictions of 30-MPH winds and up to two-inches of rain Thursday night.
Gates will open at South Columbus High School at 6 p.m. Monday, with the entertainment kicking off at 7 p.m., fireworks scheduled to soar at 9:30 p.m.
Food, soft drinks and water will be sold by the Chamber, and Civitans will be back again with glow necklaces, the Rotary Club again selling sno-cones.
MG Amusements & Concessions will provide game trailers, and chamber leaders promise minimal costs for food and fun, entertainment for free, and no admission charge thanks to event sponsors, which are listed in the advertisement on Page 6 in the July 2 Tabor-Loris Tribune, in print and online.
