California car, weapons, recovered after chase

By DEUCE NIVEN

A car reported stolen in California and a small arsenal were recovered after the Nissan drove through a traffic checkpoint near Tabor City, a Columbus County Sheriff’s Office report shows.
Deputies had set up a license checkpoint on Green Acres Road at the South Carolina state line when the 2013 Nissan Sentra drove past officers, prompting a brief pursuit that ended on Pine Street in the Green Acres subdivision just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, the report by Deputy Brandon Batten said.
Four men jumped from the car and fled into a nearby wooded area, eluding deputies.
Inside the car deputies found two rifles, ammunition, a stun gun, gun cleaning kit, digital camera, wallet with ID and credit cards, and a red box containing a silver ring with pink stones, the report said.
Owned by a Barstow, California woman, the car had been reported stolen, though it was not clear when, the report said.
