Fire late Sunday claimed a Fair Bluff area woman, apparently as she tried to flee the flames, Assistant Columbus County Coroner William Hannah said.
Darcus Ann Bullard, 75, died in the blaze that consumed her home on Irvin Enzor Road South shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, Hannah said.
Bullard lived alone, Hannah said. Firefighters found her body “close to the door.” She was burned, and an autopsy will determine the cause of her Bullard’s death, Hannah said.
No cause for the fire had been determined early Monday, Assistant Fair Bluff Fire & Rescue Chief Matt Turner said. Investigators from the SBI and the Columbus County Fire Marshal’s office were at the remnants of the home early Monday.
