Clarendon teen gunned down in Chadbourn
By DEUCE NIVEN
A Clarendon teen died after being shot in the head on a Chadbourn street Saturday afternoon, Columbus County Assistant Coroner William Hannah said.
Travis Lee Bellamy, 16, of the 100 block of Timber Creek Trail, was shot at least twice, with a second bullet grazing his left thigh, shortly before 5:30 p.m., Hannah said.
Bellamy had reportedly been talking on a cell phone when a car pulled, an argument followed, and Bellamy was shot.
Bellamy was taken by ambulance to Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville, where he was pronounced dead, Hannah said. Hannah said death was likely almost instantaneous, though emergency crews tried to save him.
An autopsy will be conducted in Raleigh, Hannah said, probably Monday.
Chadbourn Police are investigating the murder, Hannah said.
