Bogus bills spotted

By DEUCE NIVEN

Altered C-Notes and counterfeit $20s are showing up in the Tabor-Loris Community, police in both municipalities say.
In Loris a $100 image has been copied over $1 bills, giving the false appearance of the larger bill. Because the $1 bill is genuine, counterfeit detection pens will not detect the phony, the Loris Police Department warns. Anyone taking a $100 bill should pay close attention to the corners, where the $1 image can be seen beneath the $100 print.
Bogus $20 bills have turned up in two Tabor City locations recently, The Todd House and Jones Street Missionary Baptist Church, and were not discovered until each had made bank deposits, Tabor City police report.
Anyone who encounters apparently counterfeit money should contact local law enforcement.
