Herman Eldridge Ward: Nakina

    Herman Eldridge “Ridge” Ward, known by some as “Pa”, of Nakina, died Thursday, Nov. 20 in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Whiteville. He was 89.
    Born March 5, 1925 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Franklin Cromwell Ward and Janice Owens Ward.  
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin Bethea Ward, D.P. Ward, Marshall Haig Ward, Elbert Ward; and two sisters. Elma G. Long and Minnie Ward.
    He is survived by one daughter, Miriam Joan Ward Gerald of Nakina; two sons: Gregory D. Ward, Darrell G. Ward (Mitzi), both of Nakina; four grandchildren: Britany Ward, Markus Gore, Tara Ward, Kristian Ellis; one great grandchild: Tristan Ellis; and extended family: Jenise Whaley, Heather Phillips, Kaylee Etheridge, Jaiden Etheridge, and Carolyn Kronenberg.
    Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 in Nakina Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial following in the Ward Cemetery, Nakina.
    Visitation was planned from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in Nakina Pentecostal Holiness Church.
