James Wayne Hughes: Loris

James Wayne Hughes of Loris passed away Saturday, Nov. 29 at his home following a short illness. He was 70.
Born on Sept. 13, 1944 in Loris he was the son of Reverend Thomas Edward Hughes and Mrs. Amanda Pauline Housand Hughes.
Mr. Hughes served his country with courage and honor in the United States Army National Guard, after which he owned and operated a convenience store and later worked as a hardware store manager. Mr. Hughes was an active member of New Home Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Clara Barnhill Hughes of the home; one son, Franklin Wayne Hughes of Conway; grandson, Mitchell W. Hughes and wife, Kaitlyn of Loris; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie R. Hughes and Addison Hughes both of Loris; brother, Hal Hughes Sr., and wife, Ann of Loris and sister, Shirley Shannon of Loris.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by a granddaughter, Morgan LeAnne Hughes; four brothers, Lenford, Douglas, Windell and Ricky Hughes and one sister, Brenda Stevens.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Thompson and Reverend Roger Chestnut officiating. Committal services followed at the Thomas Hughes Family Cemetery.
