School delays in Columbus, other decisions Wednesday

By DEUCE NIVEN

Public schools in Columbus County will open late on Wednesday, with a decision for the Horry County Schools to be made in the morning, officials said Tuesday.
Columbus County Schools will open for students at 10 a.m., with the exception of the Columbus Career & College Academy in Fair Bluff, where classes will begin at 11 a.m. Faculty and staff are to report to all schools at 9:30 a.m.
High schools exams will continue, on schedule, for the Columbus County Schools.
That could change in the morning, with a good deal of uncertainty concerning winter precipitation, and where it will fall, county schools spokesman Kelly Jones said. A decision on the possible cancellation of classes for the county schools will be made early, likely by about 7 a.m., Jones said.
Whiteville City Schools are following the same schedule as the county.
Horry County School District officials said they will check the roadways in the morning, and make a decision on delays or cancellations by 6 a.m.
Columbus County government offices will open on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, with county officials to monitor roadways in the morning, County Manager Bill Clark said.
