Rev. Brooks Carlyle Sykes: Clarendon

    Rev. Brooks Carlyle Sykes of Clarendon died Tuesday, Jan. 20, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 76.
    Born June 13, 1938 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late James Evander Sykes and Sarah Milligan Sykes.
    He is survived by his wife, Ruthene Fowler Sykes of the home; one son, Gary Sykes and wife Melissa of Tabor City; one daughter, Glenda Spivey and husband Roger of Clarendon; one sister, Elizabeth Harrelson of Tabor City; five grandchildren, Jeremy Spivey, Kelly Cribb, Travis Sykes, Ariel Sykes, Lacey Sykes; four great grandchildren, Summer Strickland, Chase Soles, Macelyn Soles, Tanner Sykes; and two step great grandchildren, Drake Cribb and Hunter Cribb.
    He was a Minister for 44 years and the Pastor of Pireway Original Freewill Baptist Church.
    Visitation was planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Chadbourn.
    Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Chadbourn, with burial following in the Stanley-Fowler Cemetery, Clarendon.
