Dorothy Simmons Godwin: Clarendon

    Dorothy Simmons Godwin of Clarendon died Tuesday, Feb. 3, in McLeod Loris hospital. She was 91.
     Born Sept. 4, 1923 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Simmons and Lottie Prince Simmons.  
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jake C. Godwin; four brothers; and one sister.
    She was a member of Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, Chadbourn, where she served with the Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the Eastern Star.
    She is survived by one son, Larry Godwin and wife Wanda of Clarendon; one daughter, Peggy Fields and husband Corbett of Evergreen; two sisters, Louise Strickland of Fair Bluff, Irene Daniels of Chadbourn; four grandchildren: Ab Godwin, Josh Godwin, Jeff Godwin, Ann Ramey; and three great grandchildren.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 in Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, Chadbourn.
    Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, with burial following in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary, 2665 Beaverdam Rd, Chadbourn, NC  28431.
